1st Official Urgent care Visit

It's official, we had our first urgent care visit December 23rd.

The boys were staying at my moms house and when I went to pick them up Tyler was a little fussy. My mom said that he and Collin had been playing and Collin fell on top of Tyler-not an uncommon event. She also mentioned he had been very clingy and a little whiny since. She thought maybe he had to go to the bathroom. Of course all the worst thoughts go through your head-is he bleeding internally and on and on.

Tyler is pretty "hearty" and has an extremely high tolerance for pain so you never know with him. He would just say "owie" and "hurt". I asked him to point to what hurt but that didn't work. It seemed like he kept holding his stomach. Finally, I noticed he wasn't moving his right arm. It was just sort of dangling there. I felt his arm and shoulder and I couldn't feel anything sticking out so I took him home to figure out what to do next.

The owies and hurts got a little worse when we got home. So much so that we had to put a button up shirt on him because he cried when we tried to raise his arm. I decided I was going to run him to urgent care-keep in mind it was a Sunday at 5pm 2 days before Christmas. Great timing!

I found out that my "babysitter" emergency sheet is out of date and the urgent care moved about 2 years ago! Once we found it the place was packed! Full of coughing, hacking, snotting kids. For once, Tyler was not sick but I'm sure he will be now.

We had been there for about an hour when he decided he wanted to get up and play. Wouldn't you know he started using his right arm like nothing was wrong! My little crazy, ornery Ty Ty was back in action. I wondered if the Motrin I gave him started working so I gave it a few minutes to make sure he kept using it then asked the nurse what she thought. Of course, they can't tell you to leave, they have to tell you to wait for the doctor just in case. I wasn't about to leave 2 days before Christmas and have him in pain and have to sit and wait all over again so we waited it out.

We waited 4 hours for the doctor to walk in, look at his arm and tell me he had most likely dislocated his elbow and it went back in to place on it's own. Sorry for your wait have a nice day. Wow!

I was glad we had an answer though. She said it's very common in little kids and of course he will be more likely to do it again until about the age of 4 now that it has happened once.

I had envisioned a much more dramatic first "ER" visit so I got off easy this time. Although, the last words out of the doctor's mouth were "I think we're going to be seeing a lot of this little guy", Thanks Doc!
